12th Grade Exhibition - Nov. 9th

This exhibition of learning is designed for the student to demonstrate mastery of a set of academic skills across ALL curriculum disciplines. Exhibitions are excellent for developing organization, time-management, researching, writing and public speaking. They require critical thinking skills for inquiry-based activities in science, math, visual arts and government. English will support citations and writing skills. Students will demonstrate their science problem solving abilities by framing the question: Should our family alter its ecological footprint so we are living sustainably? They will research their families' ecological footprint, and the components that make up an ecological footprint, gather data through experimental methods, analyze their results using transformations of functions, demonstrate their interpretation of data in a discussion and participate in a Socratic seminar discussion on management strategies for sustainability on the city or national level.

The exhibition will have science, math and government standards embedded in it, and will truly push the students analytic and application skills. University of Washington research members will be flying to film some of students performances.

Lower Division Exhibition - Nov. 10

The LD exhibition is right around the corner!

On Thursday, November 10th, you will see Lower Division students exploring the question: "What is the impact of our choices?"

Student presentations be begin right at 6:00, so you should plan on arriving by 5:45 at the latest to get a seat! Park in the back parking lot.

9th grade students will be presenting their gravity cars and the choices they made, based on physics, to design them. They will also be participating in a Socratic Seminar discussing the characters' choices in the literature they have read in class.

10th grade students will be participating in a mock trial analyzing the choices of Napoleon, the leader of Animal Farm, and also participating in a public critique of their artwork and the ways they chose to express their identities through art.

Be ready for a night of intelligent discussion, hard questions, and non-stop excitement!

Impact Academy will continue to accept applications for the 2011-2012 school year. There may be some spots available in the 10th and 11th grades at the start of the 2nd Semester.
