Our founding 7th grade class is excited to announce our first ever exhibition: Citizens for Change!

  • November 17th, 2016 6:00-8:00pm
  • Impact Academy of Arts and Technology

Essential Question:  How can we change our current political parties’ ideals to have a stronger representation of who we are?

Humanities: For the past 2 months, students have been studying the foundations of the two leading political parties. Students read about current issues facing our country.  After examining how political leaders plan to handle important issues such as: immigration, Civil Rights, and education, students formed their own political parties, based on what they want to see changed.

On Exhibition Night, all attendees will get to vote for the political party you want to join, using an official ballot!

Our students have been practicing the 5 P’s of presenting (personality, projection, pacing, poise, and posture).  Students will use these 5 P’s while presenting their political party’s platform on Exhibition Night.

In order to practice the 5 P’s for exhibition night students have been delivering humorous skits and spontaneous speeches in Physical Activities, and the use of non-fiction text to develop and make informative presentations about an animal in STEM.

We look forward to seeing you at exhibition night!

News Update: October 14, 2016

Congratulations on the end of a great Quarter 1.  We successfully founded a school!  In our first two months of school, we have exceeded our enrollment and attendance goals, with 124 students attaining 97% attendance.

Progress reports have been mailed home or handed out at student lead conferences. You will notice that we don’t assign As, Bs, or Cs at Impact Academy Middle Grades. Instead, you will see numbers 0-4.  For each class, you see a “Progress” score, and a “Standards” score. Below the “Progress” score for each class you see the college ready skills that will help your child access their agency. Below the “Standards” score for each class, you see the academic skills and knowledge connected to that subject area.

screen-shot-2016-11-03-at-9-55-44-pmAt the start of the year, our students went through a design thinking process as a community to brainstorm, combine, synthesize, and vote on their own community agreements. Their final product is at the left, with student illustrations.

One of the highlights of Impact Academy is proudly watching your student present on Exhibition night. In PBL-Humanities, students have been following the presidential election and developing their own political parties and platforms. On exhibition night, Thursday November 17th at 6pm, 100% of our scholars will present to 100% of our families. Students must dress formally, and will receive an Exhibition clothing requirements hand-out in November.

We are excited to announce that Impact Middle grades is the first Envision school where our students each have their own Chromebook. Students keep their Chromebooks in their backpacks during the day. They can log in and spend 30 minutes or more on each of the programs below in order to build their reading and math skills. Impact Academy has paid for you to have access to these programs at school and at home, so please take advantage of this resource.

Please remember our school dress code has a no red, no blue policy.  In order to ensure the safety of all of our students 100% of the time, please ensure your child is not wearing solid red or blue at school.  (This includes blue Warriors jerseys.  If you do want to support the Warriors, please purchase warriors gear in any of the other colors.)  I appreciate your trust and partnership as we ensure an academic and safe environment for all of our scholars.

We have won over $3000 in Donors Choose grants this year! This means students have new calculators, math manipulates, basketball hoops, ping pong tables, soccer balls, board games, and more to make school even better. If you’d like to contribute to a teacher’s project, please visit Donorschoose.com and search for Impact Academy. Thank you for your support!

Do you know someone who would like to join our 7th or 9th grade class next year? Please encourage them to apply online at www.es-impact.org. Or, attend an Info Session on November 1, December 6, or Jan 10 from 6-7:30 here at IA.

Please join us each month when we have our Spartan Family Association Meetings in our community room. At our last meeting, over 50 Spartan family members learned about our online learning programs, our grading system, and even helped install backpack hooks, build a ping pong table, and repair ball chairs. Thank you to our amazing families! Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday November 9th from 6-7:30.

Remember to remind your student every day: “If you work hard, you can go to a 4 year college!”

Thank you so much to everyone who came last night to fill the board room at City Hall.  If you were there, I know you felt the power of our numbers — and the board saw how much Impact Academy, and 7th grade next year, means to you.  You looked GREAT in your Impact Academy T-shirts!  Continue to wear them with pride.

The HUSD School Board will vote on our proposal for charter renewal with the addition of middle grades at their public meeting Wednesday January 27th.
